Editing Mailchimp templates

3 min read

On this page
  • Create a campaign

  • Enter the information needed – who it should be sent to, who it’s from etc.

  • Go on to the design of the email

  • At the top, choose Saved templates

  • Then click the template you want to start from, and the editor opens by itself

Drag and drop

Drag in the elements you need.

When you have dragged in an element, an editor opens automatically on the right.

Most elements have 3 editing options:

Content:

Here you enter text and insert images and links.

Style:

Here you set background colours, text sizes, text colours, centring etc.

At the bottom you can apply this style to all elements of the same kind.

You do this by ticking the box next to Apply to all existing blocks

Settings:

Here you can set the alignment and, for example, the number of columns in text elements.

The Product element

With the Product element you can insert products directly from your shop, so you don’t have to fiddle with texts, prices and links.

Drag the Product element into your campaign email, to where you want it.

Then choose Browse All, and you can search for products in your online shop.

Search for the product you want.

Click the product that comes up and choose Insert.

The product has now been fetched from your online shop into the template.

The title and price are brought across automatically, but you can edit them on the Content tab.

Here you can also add an extra text and enter a different text for the buy button.

You edit the font, button colour etc. on the Style tab.

The layout – whether the text should be below or beside the product images, and the size and position of the buy button – is edited on the Settings tab.

The Product Rec element

With the Product Rec element you can insert recommended products from your online shop.

This element takes the information directly from your shop, and shows different products depending on what the customer has bought before.

Drag the Product Rec element into your campaign email, to where you want it.

On the Content tab, choose how many products to show.

You can choose up to 4 products per element – max. 10 different products in total.

Set the Range to make sure different products are shown. Choose which information to show (title, price, button) and the button text.

You edit the font, button colour etc. on the Style tab.

The layout – whether the text should be below or beside the product images, and the size and position of the buy button – is edited on the Settings tab.

It’s correct that the element has no titles, prices or images – as they will differ depending on which customer views the email.

If you want to see how the email looks for a particular customer, you can choose Preview and Test and then Enter Preview mode in the top right corner of the screen.

When it shows the email, click Enable live merge tag info, and you can use the arrow keys below it to see how different customers/email addresses will see the email.

When you’re happy, click the cross in the top right corner to return to the campaign editor.

More help with Mailchimp

Mailchimp offers quite a lot of help. In many places, when you’re logged in, you can click help and “video tutorial”.

They also have a wide range of free e-books here (opens in a new tab) and a good support section here (opens in a new tab).
