There isn’t much point in having lots to say that Google would love to pass on if you aren’t in Google at all – or in the other search engines.

Check whether you are already in Google

Start by finding out whether Google actually knows your site.

To do this, go to google.com and type a search like this one:

site:yourdomain.com

If you have found that your site is not in Google, the best thing you can do for it is:

Get some links!

Ideally, they should be relevant links from sites with as much authority as possible. For example, a link from the home page of bbc.co.uk (if you could get one) is better than one from Aunt Anna’s cosy page of family photos. A good link could come from manufacturers and suppliers, for example.
