Delivery by weight or price
Set up delivery that is calculated from the total weight or price of an order in your online shop.
This guide goes through the delivery method you can use to set up delivery based on the total weight or price of the order. In other words, if your products have a weight, you can set up this delivery method with different prices depending on the weight of the products in the basket.
Delivery by weight or price
You’ll find the delivery methods under Settings > Shipping and delivery > Delivery methods – and there you choose Add new.
Next, choose which module to install. Choose the one called Price calculated from the weight of the products.
Enable module
The module has to be enabled before you can use it.
Estimate
If this method should be used as an estimate in the basket to show customers a shipping calculation, tick this box.
Title
Give it a descriptive title, so both you and your customers know what this method is about. For example “Total order weight”.
Description
Here you can add an extra text that is shown below the title.
VAT class
If a VAT class should apply, choose it here.
Logo
If you want a logo shown with this delivery method, you can upload an image file here. Click the folder icon on the right and choose the file you want.
Handling cost
Should there be a fixed charge for handling the parcels for this delivery method? Enter the price in your shop’s default currency.
Packaging weight
The weight of the packaging can be given as a percentage of the total order weight or as a fixed packaging weight. You can also set a maximum for how much weight is added to an order for packaging. For example, the formula 0.1% + 0.03 < 0.5 kg means:
0.1% of the weight of the products in the order is added for packaging. On top of that, 0.03 is added as the minimum packaging weight (even for small products that weigh almost nothing). At most 0.5 is added for packaging.
Default order weight, kg
If the total weight of an order is 0 kg, the weight you enter here is used.
Company name for this delivery method
Should the company name field be shown, and should it be required or optional for this method? You set that here.
Calculate the price by
Choose whether the price table should be based on the total weight or the total price of the order.
Default price table
The shipping price is based on the total cost or weight of the products in the basket.
If the total weight exceeds the maximum weight allowed for one parcel, the shipment is split into two or more parcels and the shipping price is calculated from that.
Maximum weight (kg)
The delivery method is only offered for orders where the total weight of the products does not exceed the limit you enter here. If the staff in the shop can’t handle parcels over 30 kg, for example, enter 30 here, and this delivery option won’t be shown if the order weighs more than that.
Minimum weight (kg)
The delivery method is only offered for orders where the total weight of the products is above the limit you enter here.
Allow only for shipping zones
Here you can limit the zones this delivery method applies to.
Allow only for customer groups
If this method should only apply to certain customer discount groups, tick them here.
Allow only customer types
If this delivery method should only apply to certain customer types, for example private customers or businesses, you can set that here.
Remember to save
When you’ve made all your changes, everything takes effect once you click Save.
